Oklahoma Driving License Point System
If you accumulate enough infractions on your Oklahoma driving record, or points your license may be suspended or revoked. It is a good idea to pay attention to how many points you have and what the point system means for you and your driving privilege
Oklahoma License Suspension and the Mandatory Point System
Oklahoma uses the Mandatory Point System to monitor drivers and make sure that reckless or careless drivers are held accountable. If you accumulate ten or more points within five years, then your license will be suspended.
Points Per Infraction:
- Reckless driving: 4 points
- Speeding 25 mph or more over the posted limit: 3 points
- Violation of license restriction: 2 points
- Careless driving: 2 points
- Speeding: 2 points
- Following another vehicle too closely: 2 points
- Failure to obey a stop sign or traffic light: 2 points
- Failure to yield: 2 points
- Wrong way on a one way street: 2 points
- Operating a defective vehicle: 1 point
- All other violations: 1 point
Certain infractions carry an automatic revocation of your driver’s license upon conviction. These include:
- Failure to stop or remain stopped for a school bus loading and unloading: 1 year but can be modified to allow driving
- Failure to pay for gasoline pumped into a vehicle: six months for first offense and one year for second offense; no modified license available.
- Failure to obey a traffic control a stop sign when such failure results in great bodily injury to any other person; one year revocation for first offense. No modified license available.

How to Get Rid of Points
For every 12-month period in which there are no convictions for violations resulting in points, you will get an automatic two points deducted from your record. If there are no traffic violations for three consecutive years, then the points will be deducted to zero.
You might also get rid of points by taking approved driving courses. Completing a DPS-approved course will result in a two-point deduction from your record. Credit for completing the course can be given once every 24 months.
If you are facing a license revocation due to a traffic infraction, contact us immediately as there are steps that can be taken to avoid a license suspension. There is a higher likelihood of success if we are involved at the beginning versus attempting to fix the problem after you receive notice of the revocation.
