Human Trafficking and Prostitution in Oklahoma
Human trafficking and prostitution happen in most areas of the world. Oklahoma is no exception, and our lawmakers have taken a very tough stance against these types of crimes.
In our state, it is illegal to sell, buy, or solicit to sell or buy sexual acts (prostitution), no matter the person’s age, with or without consent. It is a crime to “broker” such acts as well.

What kinds of penalties do these charges have?
Soliciting sex is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. Fines can be up to $7,500. However, if either the buyer or the seller has HIV and knows it, the crime changes to a felony and carries a prison sentence up to five years.
Another type of human trafficking involves kidnapping women to be used as a commodity. This felony is a very serious crime and conviction would mean a lengthy prison sentence.
